Blenheim

Day 11: Thursday February 13 – tandem biking around Marlborough, New Zealand’s largest wine region with 109 wineries. Marlborough is best known for its Sauvignon Blancs – not what we would have called our favorite variety, but we were won over by the end of our bike tour.

A gorgeous day to bike around
Tandem bike requires a lot of communication and trust, good practice for marriage
First stop was a hit, took a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for the trip
Lunch time at Wairau River winery
By the end of the day we had the tandem bike thing down!
Fun Fact: New Zealand was the crusader of the screwcap wine bottle initiative (2001) goodbye cork screws!

After a long day, we relaxed back at the Airbnb. Our host Frank is an expert traveler and author offered practical advice including looking into house sitting worldwide.

Very cozy stay
Oh, yes and laundry – eco-friendly style the New Zealand way

Day 12: Friday February 14 Back on the road with scenic stops along the way before our next backpacking trip.
